How does the technology loan program work?

Current College of San Mateo students are eligible. Visit the library front desk to borrow technology items you need for class. See details and options below.

Step 1: Determine eligibility & Verify availability

Determine eligibility

Any current CSM student is eligible to borrow technology from College of San Mateo Library.

  • Bring your student ID (available to students from the Center for Student Life)
  • If you do not have a student ID then bring a valid photo ID to verify your identity (e.g. state issued id or driver's license, passport) AND your G number and proof of enrollment (your enrollment status will be checked at the time of your technology loan)

Verify availability

Once you have determined your eligibility to check out technology you should verify the availability of the item(s) you need - no advance reservations are required while supplies last. You can verify availability online, or contact your library by phone, email, or in person during library open hours. Visit the library to borrow technology you need and it will be loaned to you at the library front desk.

Technology items available for loan include:

  • Calculators
  • Laptops
  • Headphones
  • Hotspots
  • Other specialty technology items supporting specific courses--check with the library for details

Note that only items showing "Out of library," On holdshelf," or "On loan until" are unavailable for check out.

If the item you need isn't available, you may be able to place a request to be added to the waitlist queue using your college library account--you will be notified via email as soon as it becomes available. Your request status can be monitored from your library OneSearch account.

  • Pick it up anytime during the library’s open hours
  • A loan receipt will be emailed to you when you borrow the item
  • You can monitor due dates of your technology equipment by signing in to your Library OneSearch account
  • Contact the CSM Library for questions about your loan or due date

Please refer to the district guidelines for returning to campus for details about masking and vaccination requirements.

Step 3: Return it to your library at the end of the semester

Return your technology items at any campus library location that is convenient for you during library open hours.

All borrowed technology items must be returned by the due date.

Lost item replacement fees may be charged for unreturned items.

  • Technology items you’ve borrowed must be returned by the end of the semester
  • Check your school email for updates about borrowed technology items
  • Return technology items that are no longer needed anytime before the due date by coming to the library during library open hours
